On June 30th, the US Senate Committee Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs held an online hearing called“Digitalization of Currency and Payments”, the discussion focus on digital dollars. The Huobi Research Institute holds the view that this is the second hearing on digital dollars following the hearing held by the Senate Financial Services Committee on June 11th, which shows the enthusiasm and importance of the US government for digital dollars. Due to the delay of up to five months in the use of cheques to issue relief payments and the inability to cover all eligible citizens during the epidemic period. The disadvantage of the traditional payment model was recognized in this hearing. Officials who participate in the hearings were generally held a positive attitude about the digital dollar, recognize the role of inclusive finance, and the characteristics of efficient and low-cost payment, but there are still disputes about whether to use digital currency and related new technologies. In addition, officials expressed their concern about the challenge of China’s DCEP to digital dollars. Overall, the pace of digital dollars is expected to be getting closer.
